It all started with a vintage teacup… a floral
patterned English piece my Grandmother gave to me as a
teenage girl. Aside from having an emotional attachment
to all it represented about our relationship, I was genuinely
surprised to find another like it at the first antique show I
attended, and thus my collecting began. In the early
years I concentrated on small things to accommodate the size
of my apartment and my lean budget. With increasing
experience and knowledge, I found a rewarding hobby that
connected to both my aesthetic sense and desire to
preserve memories, keepsakes, and lost treasures.
Somehow the beauty of things forgotten reached out to me in a
personal way. It felt appropriate to respect the things
that someone else had cherished long
ago…
In the early 1990’s I purchased my first home, a
classic 1920’s bungalow. Determined to fill it with
period appropriate furnishings and décor, I juggled to find a
balance between authenticity and practicality. It didn’t
take long to learn this adventure would also
require of me to part with and pass
along beloved items. My antique shopping
experiences exposed me to new ideas, new interests, and even
new trends. And so, the hobby turned into a
business.
Fennelweed allowed me to support my increasingly
addictive habit as well as develop a fun small
business!
For more than 10 years I have enjoyed offering my
vintage and antique merchandise through various venues,
including retail space, antique shows, and eBay. I am
now additionally pleased to offer an internet store option
through Ruby Lane.
First and foremost, this business is a personal
passion. As a full-time professional career woman for 20
years in an allied health field, I recently restructured my
time and added Motherhood to my
résumé! It has been a welcome change that allows me to
spend more time in my home office. Finding the balance
can be a challenge (as many working moms know!), but the sense
of fulfillment is beyond
words.
Over the years I have made wonderful friends in this
business too! Many of you are fellow antique dealers who
have motivated and inspired me to pursue this
side-career. Others are faithful and loyal customers who
have shared my interests and enthusiasm, showing your
dedication through your continued patronage. I
appreciate your loyalty and support!
And so the adventure continues...
